Cold Spring Falls
Waterfall Info: Cold Spring Falls is a picturesque waterfall located in the Rock Creek valley several miles east of Peeples Lake. The waterfall lies within a remote gorge along a large but unnamed stream flowing down from Cold Spring to Rock Creek. A shallow wading pool lies at the waterfall's base, but it's not sufficiently deep for swimming. I rediscovered this waterfall in January 2025, so it's not included in the current edition of my Waterfalls of Georgia book.
Landowner: Chattahoochee National Forest
Height: 50 Feet
Type: Sheer Drop (Single-Tier)
County: Murray
Access Info: Drive to the end of Forest Road 3 (Peeples Lake Road) to the Rock Creek OHV trailhead. Then, turn right on the rougher Forest Road 3A (Sandy Gap Road) and drive another 1.2 miles to a small parking area for the Pinhoti Trail on the left. Follow the Pinhoti Trail past the gate to where it crosses the Cold Spring creek. Then, simply hike and bushwhack off-trail through fairly open forest upstream for about a mile until you reach the waterfall. Closer to the falls, you will encounter lots of boulder scrambling along the steepening and narrowing creek valley.
