Visiting a beautiful Georgia waterfall does not always require a long trek through the wilderness. The following list showcases seven Grandma-approved waterfalls visible right from the side of the road. Some of these falls beckon hopping out for the best view, but you'll never need to walk more than a few yards from your vehicle.
1. Mud Creek Falls
You won't find another roadside waterfall as magnificent as Mud Creek Falls. Located at the end of Tahoe Lane, this 85-foot cataract shoots spray in all directions like a water fountain. Picnic tables beckon for a relaxing lunch at the falls, while a 1-mile trail follows cascading Mud Creek downstream.
2. Cupid Falls
Families will love taking their kids to wade and play in the shallow waters at the foot of Cupid Falls. A favorite for students at nearby Young Harris College, this 15-foot waterfall recently became part of the Corn Creek Preserve. The childhood home of Zell Miller, former governor of Georgia (1991 to 1999), was built with stones gathered in the creek at Cupid Falls.
3. Dicks Creek Falls
Look no further than Dicks Creek Falls for a refreshing swimming hole with effortless access from the side of a dirt road in the Chestatee Wildlife Management Area. The 10-foot-deep pool at this waterfall is a popular summer destination for Atlanta tourists, so go on a weekday for the best chance of solitude.
4. Upper Dicks Creek Falls
Leave the crowds behind at Dicks Creek Falls with a ride up the bumpy dirt road to the 12-foot upper falls. Lying a few steps from the road, Upper Dicks Creek Falls features a shallow, sandy pool and inviting rock formations. Nearby Blood Mountain Creek forms its own series of waterfalls at the end of a short scramble path.
5. Bean Creek Falls
Perhaps no roadside waterfall lies in clearer plain sight from the car window than Bean Creek Falls. This scenic 20-foot waterfall is located along a quaint backroad mere minutes from the bustle of downtown Helen and Unicoi State Park.
6. Barnes Creek Falls
A roadside waterfall that you'll probably have all to yourself, Barnes Creek Falls lies deep in northwest Georgia's secluded Cohutta Mountains. This 15-foot waterfall is located on a small creek, so make a post-rainfall visit to see the falls at their best.
7. Upper Jigger Creek Falls
Located along a narrow dirt road adjacent to Alaculsy Valley, Upper Jigger Creek Falls is a picturesque 20-foot waterfall. The top part of the falls lies in plain sight along East Cowpen Road, but you'll attain even better views if you take the 2-minute path down the slope to the base. After seeing the falls, folks often head to the Jacks River for an afternoon of swimming and fishing.
