One of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia, Amicalola Falls is widely known as the tallest waterfall in the state and among its most magnificent. Amicalola Falls is among the most famous tourist attractions in Georgia, its height listed as a towering 729 feet. The name Amicalola is derived from a Cherokee language term that means "tumbling waters." Amicalola Falls is also one of the famed Three Sister Waterfalls of northern Dawson County, the other two being Cochran's Falls and Bearden Falls. The main tier of Amicalola Falls, about 250 feet high, can be seen from a footbridge crossing the creek in the middle of the falls. Amicalola Creek keeps dropping steeply down the mountain for hundreds of feet before reaching the Reflection Pool far below.

Visitors can see Amicalola Falls after a short walk along the West Ridge ADA Trail, the Appalachian Approach Trail from the new visitor center near the park entrance, or the steep West Ridge Staircase from the top of the falls. The outstanding valley view looking down from the top of the falls requires no hiking to access.
