About the GUIDEBook

4,000+ copies sold  •  available in 100+ Georgia stores  •  as seen in The New Yorker and North Georgia Living

It's Georgia's first-ever waterfall bible.

Discover the grandeur of 735 waterfalls in the Peach State through the gorgeous full-color photographs, concise hiking and driving directions, historical facts, and humorous anecdotes of Waterfalls of Georgia.

The definitive guide to its subject, Waterfalls of Georgia features unrivaled geographical coverage with waterfalls from the lofty Blue Ridge Mountains to Metro Atlanta and even the rolling Coastal Plain. Many waterfalls are reachable with an easy walk down an established trail, some are visible from the car window, while others require a challenging trek through the wilderness to reach.

Who it's for: this essential guide suits every age and skill level: seasoned hikers, recreationists, families with kids, retirees, artists, and natural history enthusiasts alike.

Over the last eight years, I personally traveled to every far-flung corner of my state, hiked over 1,500 miles, and had many conversations with local fishermen and hunters in order to fulfill my labor of love: producing the most comprehensive guide to Georgia waterfalls ever published. Inside you'll find hundreds of seldom seen waterfalls not published in any other books and conspicuously absent from online blogs. This fall, discover a boundless frontier of places to chase our dazzling fall colors with a copy of my new waterfall guidebook.

Every copy of "Waterfalls of Georgia" ordered from this website is personally autographed by me, the author. I am eager to include personalized inscriptions when requested.

“Ozboyd is a waterfall wunderkind who has been chronicling waterfalls in Georgia since he was a homeschooled teen ... a friend dubbed Ozboyd “Dr. Waterfall” ... it took about fifteen thousand miles in his truck and another fifteen hundred miles on foot to reach all the falls.”

-The New Yorker

"A persistent explorer with deep knowledge of his subject and an array of remote sensing tools, Mark has identified many undocumented cascades ... this is a must-have book for hikers, nature-lovers, and weekend adventurers."

About Mark

Mark Oleg Ozboyd, aka "Dr. Waterfall," a Georgia native and first-generation American, has been exploring waterfalls since early childhood. At 12, Mark started writing trail reports on www.HikingTheAppalachians.com, now a repository of over 300 hiking trails across the Southeast. At 16, he co-founded the North Carolina Hiking & Waterfalls Facebook group, which grew to 200,000 members and became the most popular forum for nature enthusiasts in North Carolina. He also helps to administrate the 350,000-member North Georgia Hiking & Adventure Facebook group. At 17, Mark compiled the first-ever online Georgia Waterfall Database documenting every known waterfall in Georgia.

Articles about Mark's work have been published in Marietta Daily Journal and The Northeast Georgian, and he has given lectures at Unicoi State Park and Chattahoochee Nature Center. As a freelance journalist, Mark wrote about waterfalls in The Dahlonega Nugget, Rabun County Travel Guide, and North Georgia Living. His picture of the Milky Way above David's Falls was the cover image for the Winter 2023-24 edition of North Georgia Living. Mark's photos have also appeared in The Toccoa Record, WSB-TV Atlanta, Travel Taste and Tour Magazine, WNC Magazine, and The Appalachian Voice.

As a professional photographer, Mark enjoys taking pictures of everything from waterfalls and night skies to historic sites and events. He is an alumnus of The Conservatoire’s European School of Music & Chess. He graduated cum laude from Washington & Lee University with degrees in Neuroscience (learning and nutrition) and Environmental Science, focused on GIS and hydrology.
