One of the most beautiful waterfalls in the upper Chestatee watershed, 40-foot Cannon Falls slides gracefully down a sheer, water-sculpted cliff into a deep, stone-rimmed pool. It has long been believed that Cannon Falls lies on private property, but this is not quite true. The east side of Frogtown Creek at the falls is private property owned by Cannon Falls Lodge, a secluded fly fishing retreat. Yet the west side of Frogtown Creek is public land part of Chattahoochee National Forest. The property boundary runs directly down the middle of the creek.
Reaching Cannon Falls via public land entails a difficult cross-country bushwhack route from Dicks Creek Road, with significant elevation gain. It's imperative for visitors to stay away from the east side of Frogtown Creek at the falls. The lodge owners have made it clear that their property is strictly off limits to everyone except guests. Remember, half of the waterfall is private, so please be respectful and leave no trace when visiting.
