Cascade Falls

Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park

Meriwether County
Warm Springs, GA

GPS Location:

Waterfall Height:

12 feet

Cascade Falls is the largest and most notable waterfall found in Central Georgia's F. D. Roosevelt State Park. The park contains four waterfalls, but 12-foot Cascade Falls is the only one large enough to resemble a true waterfall in my view. The waterfall is located on Cascade Branch just above the Wolfden Branch confluence, atop Pine Mountain. It can be reached with a moderate 2.0-mile hike along the Wolfden Loop (Pine Mountain Trail) from the WJSP-TV Tower trailhead along Hwy 27-Alt. The trail passes three smaller waterfalls/cascades enroute to Cascade Falls.

With rushing streams, steep hills, and formidable rock formations, this hike resembles something you'd find in the north Georgia mountains. The sheer sandstone cliff to the left of Cascade Falls is particularly special. Located at the top of a stone staircase, this 25-foot cliff is known as the Wolf Den because of the extensive shelter-like crevice at its foot.
