Cedar Creek Falls

Camp Mikell and Conference Center

Stephens County
Toccoa, GA

GPS Location:

34.62987, -83.34127

Waterfall Height:

40 feet

Deep in a gorge along Cedar Creek lies this unique 40-foot waterfall near Toccoa, surrounded by rhododendron and white pines. Hidden well under the radar, Cedar Creek Falls forms a picturesque stairstepping drop over a series of cliffs and ledges at the confluence with Mason Branch. This smaller latter stream adds its own cascade from the side, converging in a scenic pool by the base of Cedar Creek Falls. Here, Cedar Creek makes a right-angle turn before continuing down its rolling journey through the gorge. The stream confluence at the base of Cedar Creek Falls makes this among the most unique waterfall settings in Georgia.

Although Cedar Creek Falls is technically located in the Chattahoochee National Forest, the only reasonable way to get there is via a 1.1-mile hiking trail from the property of Camp Mikell. They are the Camp & Conference Center of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, and they actually maintain the entire trail to the falls, including the National Forest segment. Camp Mikell has very graciously permitted sporadic public access to Cedar Creek Falls on a permission basis, only when camp is not in session. The least we can do in return is ensure we abide by the camp’s requests and be courteous on their property. Prospective visitors must contact Camp Mikell directly to request access to the waterfall. At other times, the entry gate is often locked.
