Lumpkin County
Dahlonega, GA

GPS Location:

Waterfall Height:

150 feet

In between Lower DeSoto Falls and Upper DeSoto Falls, a small unmapped tributary of Frogtown Creek flows off the eastern slopes of Cedar Mountain and forms several significant wet-weather waterfalls. Cedar Mountain Falls lies about 0.1 mile upstream beyond Lower Cedar Mountain Falls. This large, multi-tier waterfall consists of several distinct sections. Approaching from the bottom: the first tier is a cluttered sliding cascade, the second tier is a free-fall adjacent to a deep grotto in the cliffs, and the third tier is a vertical tumble down a large cliff. In addition, a series of gradual sliding-type waterfalls is found above the main, vertical sections of Cedar Mountain Falls. Altogether, the waterfall tumbles over 150 feet down the mountain, but it does so in multiple sections that cannot all be seen from one location. Cedar Mountain Falls can be accessed via a steep off-trail bushwhack from the trail to Upper DeSoto Falls.
