A lesser-known waterfall just minutes from Horsetrough Falls, Chute Falls lies within a unique canyon along the upper Chattahoochee River. About 20 feet high, the river squeezes Chute Falls with great power into a fascinating passage, hardly a foot wide, surrounded by moss-covered rock formations. Water-sculpted cliffs envelop the narrow passage, after which the river opens up into a deep pool at the foot of the falls. Yes, this is the same Chattahoochee that serves as the source for much of Atlanta's drinking water. Here, it's narrow enough that you can jump right across!
Chute Falls lies 0.2 mile above a wooden footbridge crossing the Chattahoochee River along the Horsetrough Falls Trail. Faint scramble paths follow both sides of the river upstream to the falls. For the more adventurous, this is a fantastic pairing with Horsetrough Falls.
