Clear Creek Falls

Rich Mountain Wildlife Management Area

Gilmer County
Ellijay, GA

GPS Location:

34.62348, -84.43857

Waterfall Height:

15 feet

Below Blackberry Mountain Road, Clear Creek flows through an impressive gorge before emptying into the Cartecay River above Ellijay. At one point, the creek makes a sharp U-shaped bend where it slides over a pair of long, sliding-type waterfalls. This area is known as Clear Creek Falls. Even though I feel the drops are so gradual that they don't quite meet the criteria for a waterfall, this is a very beautiful location. The rapids are surrounded by unusual slabs of granite, perfect for lounging. In the summer, the upper tier of Clear Creek Falls is a popular tubing spot. An inviting pool lies at its base.

Clear Creek Falls can be accessed via a marked 0.5-mile trail from a gravel parking lot along Blackberry Mountain Road. Just before the falls, a side trail branches off to the confluence of Clear Creek with the Cartecay River, where additional rapids and bedrock slabs can be seen.
