Among the most spectacular waterfalls in Georgia, Cochrans Falls is widely considered to be the second-tallest waterfall in the state. It is the middle waterfall of the Three Sister Waterfalls, flanked a couple miles on either side by Amicalola Falls and Bearden Falls. Cochrans Falls is cited to be more than 400 feet high. The primary set of vertical drops is about 150 feet high; however, Cochrans Creek keeps steeply tumbling down the mountainside over numerous other smaller drops for over one-tenth of a mile. A magnificent overhanging bluff extends away from the foot of the waterfall's main, upper tier.
Cochrans Falls can be accessed by a 2.15-mile hike along an unmarked trail from Blackhawk Drive. Much of the route initially follows a broad, gradual trail that once served as an old ATV track. The final third of the trek is an extremely steep and difficult climb up the gorge using a precarious scramble path.
