Cross Mountain Branch Falls

Brasstown Wilderness

Union County
Hiawassee, GA

GPS Location:

34.84196, -83.83261

Waterfall Height:

50 feet

Located on the southwest side of Brasstown Bald, Cross Mountain Branch is a notable tributary dropping steeply down to join Bob Branch. In total, the creek loses about 350 feet of elevation while tumbling down this steep gorge. However, the main notable waterfall on Cross Mountain Branch lies near the head of the steep gorge. Known as Cross Mountain Branch Falls, this multi-tier is about 50 feet high. There appear to be other small waterfalls downstream, but the drops are largely cluttered with debris and hard to see.

The gorge on Cross Mountain Branch lies off-trail. You might find an old logging road along Bob Branch, but beyond the confluence, this will be entirely a bushwhack up to the falls. Cross Mountain Branch Falls is located about 0.3 mile from the Bob Branch confluence.
