Denton Creek Falls
Southern Nantahala Wilderness
Rabun County
Tate City, GA
GPS Location:
34.98563, -83.54882
Waterfall Height:
40 feet
Located a few minutes outside the remote mountain community of Tate City, 40-foot Denton Creek Falls is one of the best hidden easy waterfall hikes in Rabun County. A true free-falling waterfall dropping over the lip of an overhanging cliff, this waterfall is a rarity for the area. The recessed grotto behind the falls is full of lush, sensitive spray zone vegetation. Denton Creek Falls is the lower of three significant waterfalls on Denton Creek, a major tributary of the Tallulah River. It sees more visitation than the other two waterfalls.
Denton Creek Falls is accessed by an easy 0.5-mile hike from the bridge over Denton Creek along Tallulah River Road. Even though the trail is unmarked, it is very obvious and easily followed at a gentle uphill grade to the falls.
