Dicks Creek Falls is an underrated sleeper pick for my list of favorite waterfalls in Georgia. An impressive 50-foot slide, this waterfall is like none other because it tumbles directly into the Chattooga Wild & Scenic River, at the confluence of Dicks Creek with the Chattooga. Over 200 feet wide at the confluence, this beautiful river drops over its own series of powerful rapids called Dicks Creek Ledge, a Class IV challenge for whitewater kayakers. Note that this particular Dicks Creek should not be confused with a more popular Dicks Creek Falls in Dahlonega.
The area feels like a deep, pristine gorge, with the tumbling waters cascading among large boulders and beneath towering white pines. Just upstream from Dicks Creek Falls, a slower section of the Chattooga offers fantastic swimming opportunities and gorgeous long-range views of this unique waterfall.
The best news is that Dicks Creek Falls can be reached with an easy 0.5-mile hike along the Bartram Trail from Sandy Ford Road. The gentle downhill trail is a terrific choice for families and beginner hikers. A spur trail called the Dicks Creek Falls Trail leads down to the falls and the river. The fact this trail doesn't get more traffic is truly shocking. Keep in mind that Sandy Ford Road has a vehicle ford just before the Dicks Creek Falls trailhead, where high clearance can be preferable depending on flow levels.
