A spectacular 50-foot waterfall in the upper reaches of Sarahs Creek, the triple-tier Doctor Groh's Falls is squeezed through a steep, narrow canyon with beautiful mossy bluffs. It lies about 0.3 mile from the second creek crossing along Sarahs Creek Road (FR 156). A faint path follows an old roadbed from the road to the falls, but reaching the bottom requires a steep and precarious scramble down a rugged hillside. Docto Groh's Falls lies upstream from Sarahs Creek Campground and is the fifth of six significant waterfalls found along Sarahs Creek.
Bernie Boyer, waterfall explorer extraordinaire, first brought this waterfall to the public eye at the age of 83. Amazingly, Bernie completed this hike on the fourth anniversary of his open heart surgery, which was done to remove a tennis ball-sized aneurysm. Bernie decided to name the waterfall in honor of his surgeon, Dr. Mark Groh. If not for Dr. Groh, Bernie's expedition might have never happened, and the waterfall could have remained undocumented to this day.
