Factory Creek Falls is the most beautiful waterfall in southwest Georgia. Located near the Chattahoochee River west of Blakely, this waterfall is a significant anomaly for the low-lying fields of the coastal plain. Factory Creek is a major tributary of the Chattahoochee and flows through an impressive incised gorge with undercut limestone cliffs enroute to the river. 15-foot Factory Creek Falls tumbles in a picturesque crescent-shaped curtain about 200 feet below the culvert bridge along Old River Road. A spectacular sandy pool lies at its base.
Factory Creek Falls is located on undeveloped private property, and a short scramble path leads to the falls from the road. The waterfall has broadly been considered open to the public for decades, although unfortunately, littering and spray paint have been a longstanding fixture here. On two visits to the falls, I saw a homemade "Kind People Don't Litter" sign, along with a trash bag attached to the adjacent tree, giving an expectation that the waterfall will be visited. However, the access situation is subject to change. Thus, please be on your best behavior and leave the waterfall cleaner than you found it in order to ensure it remains open.
In my opinion, Factory Creek Falls needs to be at the top of Georgia's waterfall conservation priority list due to its unique location and geology.
