Flat Branch Falls West

Chattahoochee National Forest

Towns County
Tate City, GA

GPS Location:

34.95783, -83.57663

Waterfall Height:

50 feet

Just a couple miles west of the spectacular Flat Branch Falls in Tate City lies a totally different stream similarly named Flat Branch. This particular Flat Branch is a tributary of Charlies Creek, rather than the Tallulah River. It is home to a gradual sliding waterfall, about 50 feet high. Admittedly, this waterfall looked more impressive on the topographic maps than it turned out once I visited it in person. I think part of the issue is that the waterfall had lots of debris at the time of my visit, due to it being within the Rock Mountain Fire damage zone.

I am calling this waterfall Flat Branch Falls West just to distinguish it from the other, much more magnificent Flat Branch Falls. This waterfall lies close to Charlies Creek Road, but reaching it requires a short, steep bushwhack with no trail.
