The trail to Hemlock Falls is one of my favorite beginner waterfall hikes in Georgia. At 15 feet high, the waterfall itself isn't the most spectacular in the area, but it sits in a lush rainforest setting and features an excellent swimming hole. Where this hike truly shines is the countless views of beautiful cascades along the rolling mountain stream of Moccasin Creek, which closely accompanies the Hemlock Falls Trail all the way to the falls. You will be hardpressed to find a more beautiful creekside trail in North Georgia. In spring, the area is full of rhododendron blooms, while incredibly vibrant fall colors fill the forest here in autumn.
Hemlock Falls is reached with an easy one-mile hike from the parking area at the end of Andersonville Lane. The trailhead lies in the Chattahoochee National Forest just outside of Moccasin Creek State Park on the western shore of Lake Burton. Intrepid hikers and adventurers should consider extending their hike beyond Hemlock Falls and continue along a much more rugged, unmarked scramble path to Upper Moccasin Falls.
