Holcomb Creek Falls is one of North Georgia's most underrated easy-access waterfalls, perhaps because of the long dirt road to the trailhead. This large 120-foot waterfall is impressive any time of year and is especially magnificent at high flow, when a roaring wall of water rushes down the three tiers of cliffs. Tall white pine trees tower high above the falls, forcing you to crane your neck to see their tops. I've also seen Holcomb Creek Falls in deep freeze conditions, when this shaded northeast-facing waterfall turned into one giant slab of ice covering the cliffs.
Holcomb Creek Falls is reached with a 0.3-mile downhill hike along the green-blazed Holcomb Creek Trail from Hale Ridge Road (FR 7). Although short, the trail does descend a pretty steep hill to reach Holcomb Creek, so you might find yourself taking it slow on the return trip. The trail reaches the creek at a footbridge crossing at the base of Holcomb Creek Falls. Those looking for a slightly longer hike often pair Holcomb Creek Falls with Ammons Creek Falls a bit farther up the trail.
Notably, I have seen pictures of a number of small waterfalls in a tight off-trail gorge upstream from Holcomb Creek Falls. None of these drops really stand out to me, and accessing them is very difficult to the steep rugged terrain. Still, I'm including photos of them below for cataloguing purposes. These drops should not be confused with Upper Holcomb Creek Falls farther upstream.
