Holy Cow Falls is the first of four waterfalls found along the Georgia section of Big Creek, a major creek feeding the West Fork Chattooga River confluence at Three Forks. It lies about one mile upstream from the larger Thunder Dome Falls. According to kayaker Corran Addison, this waterfall was aptly named — albeit less PG-friendly — by Corran uttering "holy shit" after paddling this rugged canyon in the 1990s.
Here lies a waterfall where a breakneck kayaking experience can match an equally extreme hiking trip! This is among the most precarious waterfall scrambles I've done in Georgia. Although the height of Holy Cow Falls is only 20 feet, it lies in a short, tight canyon lined by sheer cliffs on both sides. An extremely steep, sketchy side path leads down to Big Creek below the falls from the unofficial Three Forks Trail leading from Highway 28. This side path descends several cliffs and dropoffs before reaching the pool at the mouth of the waterfall canyon. Attaining a good view of the waterfall requires swimming through 5-6 feet of water in the pool.
