Horse Branch Falls

Chattahoochee National Forest

Rabun County
Lakemont, GA

GPS Location:

34.78412, -83.55105

Waterfall Height:

60 feet

Sitting in a majestic semicircular amphitheater of cliffs, Horse Branch Falls is a seldom-seen 60-foot waterfall near the Lake Burton Dam. This is a picturesque waterfall with an especially scenic upper tier that forms a partial free-fall. Although Horse Branch Falls lies a mere 0.25 mile from Burton Dam Road, it requires a difficult bushwhack to reach. There is no trail of any sort up the rhododendron-choked Horse Branch valley, and lots of thick vegetation awaits enroute to the falls. The stream largely presents the best route, but it is often overgrown as well.
