Horsetail Falls

Chattahoochee National Forest

Rabun County
Clayton, GA

GPS Location:

34.97092, -83.21165

Waterfall Height:

20 feet

Horsetail Falls is the third waterfall along Big Creek, one of three major creeks feeding the West Fork Chattooga River confluence at Three Forks. It lies 0.3 mile below Thunder Dome Falls and 0.2 mile above Three Forks. At 20 feet high, this is a smaller waterfall with a nice pool. Compared to Thunder Dome Falls, Horsetail Falls requires a much harder off-trail hike to reach. The scramble path ends at Thunder Dome Falls. An old trail once paralleled the Big Creek gorge from here to Three Forks, but nowadays, it is nearly nonexistent due to heavy debris from numerous storms. Reaching the bottom of Horsetail Falls requires a tough bushwhack through many fallen trees.
