Hurricane Falls

Tallulah Gorge State Park

Rabun County
Tallulah Falls, GA

GPS Location:

34.73805, -83.39063

Waterfall Height:

90 feet

The magnificent 90-foot Hurricane Falls is the crown jewel of North Georgia's Tallulah Gorge. This is the third and largest of the five waterfalls in the gorge, which is famously known as one of the Seven Wonders of Georgia. It is also among the most spectacular waterfalls in all of North Georgia. The name of Hurricane Falls reflects its great thunderous power. The pool at the base is 180 feet long and 130 feet wide, surrounded on both sides by cliffs nearly twice the waterfall's height.

The Hurricane Falls Trail descends into Tallulah Gorge down a series of 531 steps to the bottom of Hurricane Falls. The hike is only 0.4 mile, but the stairs are quite steep and present a formidable climb for less experienced hikers. Still, this is one of the most popular tourist waterfall hikes in the area, and for good reason. A suspension bridge crosses the Tallulah River at the top of the falls, and the stairs continue down to observation deck providing a good view at the base.

I find the best view of Hurricane Falls to be from the north side of the river. Keep in mind this area can only be accessed with a special, limited Gorge Floor Access Permit.
