Keown Falls is known as the most significant waterfall within the Valley and Ridge region of northwest Georgia, which is not geologically conducive to the formation of waterfalls. Located on a tributary of Johns Creek, this 35-foot waterfall is named after Gordon Keown, the area's original surveyor. Keown Falls is best seen after heavy rain. The overhanging cliff at Keown Falls forms a dry grotto with plenty of room to walk behind the falls. Keown Falls is located at the midpoint of the 1.6-mile Keown Falls Loop Trail, and it can also be reached via the Johns Mountain Loop Trail.
