Chattahoochee National Forest

Fannin County
Dahlonega, GA

GPS Location:

Waterfall Height:

20 feet

Lance Creek drops over a set of waterfalls slightly below the point where it's crossed by the Saddle Back Trail, part of the extensive Bull Mountain multi-use trail system. The most scenic drop of Lance Creek Falls is a 20-foot slide dropping into a small pool. Morgan Kephart, who submitted this waterfall to the database, has nicknamed this drop Elawei Falls. Elawei is the Cherokee word for "quiet." Morgan states that it's a "very calm and soothing place where the water quietly and gracefully slides its way into a pool of tranquility."

Less than a hundred feet below the first waterfall, Lance Creek drops over a steep 25-foot slide, which is arguably its own separate waterfall. However, this lower falls is substantially more encloaked in rhododendron and tough to view, making it less scenic. Reaching Lance Creek Falls from the trail requires a short but steep bushwhack.
