35 feet

L'eau d'Or Falls is the first of five waterfalls lying in North Georgia's Tallulah Gorge, famously known as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia. "L'Eau d'Or," or La Dore, is French for "water of gold." Pine-rimmed cliffs surround this 35-foot waterfall, whose blue-green waters drop into the massive 200-foot x 150-foot Hawthorne Pool. On the waterfall's south side are the remains of an old water compressor plant from 1910, used to construct the Tallulah Falls Dam.

The bottom of L'eau d'Or Falls is off-limits to the public, as no trail leads to its base. However, Overlook #2 affords a beautiful birds-eye view of the falls, at a lofty height of 350 feet from the north rim of Tallulah Gorge. This waterfall view is easily accessed by a 0.2-mile walk from the Interpretive Center and requires no hiking experience to see. It is the park's only waterfall view reached by an easy, family-friendly trail with no elevation change.
