Low Gap Creek Falls

Chattahoochee Wildlife Management Area

White County
Helen, GA

GPS Location:

34.76003, -83.79814

Waterfall Height:

45 feet

A major tributary of the Upper Chattahoochee River, Low Gap Creek flows through a remote gorge with a 45-foot waterfall. The waterfall is located about 1.2 miles above Low Gap Creek Campground, which lies along its namesake creek. Although a sizeable waterfall, not all parts of Low Gap Creek Falls can be seen at once. Most people only see the lower two tiers, which drop about 25 feet into a scenic pool. Just above this lie several more small, vertical drops. Another hundred feet upstream, the creek forms a steep slide dropping 30 feet beneath a spectacular overhanging rock. This spot can arguably be considered its own upper falls.

Although Low Gap Creek Falls has been known to fishermen for decades, there is no established trail to it. The route initially follows FR 44A beyond a gate at the end of the campground. Upon reaching a ford along the road, you can take a faint fishermens' path that continues upstream along the south side of Low Gap Creek. However, the path ends at the England Camp Branch confluence. The rest of the route to the falls is either a tough bushwhack or a slippery creekwade up Low Gap Creek, depending on your off-trail route of choice.
