Lower DeSoto Falls is the first in a pair of popular, family-friendly waterfalls at the DeSoto Falls Recreation Area, which lies along US Hwy 19/129 near Turner's Corner. Tumbling about 30 feet over a sheer cliff, Lower DeSoto Falls is the smaller of the two falls, and has the shorter hike to reach. The walk to this waterfall is 0.4 mile each way along a gentle, well-marked trail. 

According to legend, a piece of armor was left behind near DeSoto Falls by either Hernando DeSoto or one of his explorers during their mid-1500s expedition.
