Lower Devil Den Falls

Chattahoochee National Forest

Stephens County
Toccoa, GA

GPS Location:

34.66200, -83.35528

Waterfall Height:

60 feet

Lower Devil Den Falls is the first in a series of three significant waterfalls along Devil Den Creek, which is a large tributary of lower Panther Creek. The waterfall is 60 feet high and is located at the bottom of a steep gorge carved out by Devil Den Creek. It is separated by about 200 feet of flat water from Devil Den Falls higher up, which is the most beautiful waterfall on the creek.

Lower Devil Den Falls is accessed via a low-level 0.4-mile bushwhack up the valley from Panther Creek. A fishermens' trail from Panther Creek Road leads to the Devil Den Creek confluence, but there are no real trails on this far side of Panther Creek. Getting across also entails a deep river crossing, which could be treacherous at high flow.

Greg Ford was among the first people to document the waterfalls of Devil Den Creek back in 2018, collectively calling them "Magnificent Falls." In recent years, Devil Den Falls has been the more widely used name due to the name of the creek, but magnificent is a very fitting adjective for these falls to go by.
