Lower Soquee River Falls is the first of several waterfalls in a remote gorge along the Left Fork Soquee River, deep in the Tray Mountain Wilderness. About 30 feet high, this unique waterfall splits into anywhere from two to four streams of flow, depending on water levels, while tumbling over the lip of a broad cliff. Lower Soquee River Falls makes for a great bonus stop for intrepid explorers headed upstream to the taller Soquee River Falls.
To reach Lower Soquee River Falls, you'll have to make a challenging cross-country hike from Odis Barron Road. Much of it is a low-level bushwhack and parts are navigationally challenging. The starting point lies at a gate on the west side of the Left Fork Soquee River road bridge. From here, one can follow a faint pathway along old logging roads upstream. The route fords the river at the Wolfpen Branch confluence, and twice more in the last quarter-mile before the falls. Lower Soquee River Falls is approximately a 1.7-mile hike from Odis Barron Road.
