Chattahoochee National Forest

White County
Helen, GA

GPS Location:

Waterfall Height:

75 feet

Middle Chinquapin Falls is the second waterfall along Chinquapin Branch, a steeply-dropping stream on the south side of Tray Mountain. This 75-foot single-tier waterfall is the most picturesque drop on the creek. It lies only about 200 feet upstream from Lower Chinquapin Falls. Some consider both drops to just be one giant waterfall. I decided to split them up because of the middle waterfall's unique beauty, and because the middle falls cannot be seen from the base of the lower falls.

Reaching Middle Chinquapin Falls entails an even more difficult off-trail bushwhack than that for the lower falls. The terrain around the waterfalls is extremely steep and dangerous. An overgrown old logging road passes just east of the falls, on the slope high above. The best route to the falls is down from this roadbed, but great care must be taken to avoid cliffs and precarious drop-offs.
