Moreland Branch Falls

Cohutta Wildlife Management Area

Murray County
Chatsworth, GA

GPS Location:

34.82493, -84.60302

Waterfall Height:

35 feet

Moreland Branch is a steep creek featuring numerous cascades, slides, and waterfalls between the 2,100-foot level and 2,400-foot level. The largest single drop along Moreland Branch is about 35 feet high, but the total vertical drop along the run is over 200 feet. It's hard to determine where the waterfall begins and ends. The entire run of Moreland Branch Falls is surrounded by rugged, overgrown terrain. Although the waterfall does have a few picturesque sections, they are difficult to attain a good view of.

To access Moreland Branch Falls, hike an established old logging road westward from FR 68 for 1.5 miles until it reaches the creek. From here, it is an extremely difficult half-mile of bushwhacking downstream to reach the waterfall.

Along the logging road, you will pass near a cluttered upper waterfall on Moreland Branch around the 2,800-foot level, surrounded by cliffs.
