Nancy Town Falls is the only officially marked waterfall in the Lake Russell Wildlife Management Area. For this reason, it has been visited more frequently than most waterfalls in the area, even though many of the others are more magnificent.
Nancy Town Falls is a multi-tier drop of about 35 feet in height, located on a tributary of Nancy Town Creek, which later flows into Nancy Town Lake downstream. In the past, this was not a very scenic waterfall because it used to be buried under many downed trees. However, the view has opened up significantly in the last few years, making this a beautiful spot to visit nowadays. The best view lies just past the end of the main trail, where the upper tier becomes better visible.
Nancy Town Falls lies at the end of a short side trail along the Sourwood Trail, a 3.5-mile loop trail from Nancy Town Lake. The waterfall can be accessed via a shorter 0.6-mile hike from a small parking area where the trail crosses Red Root Road (FR 92). It can also be accessed via a 1-mile hike from another trailhead at Lower Nancy Town Falls. Regardless of which trail you take, this is a fairly easy hike with only gentle elevation changes.
