Quiet Falls

Chattahoochee National Forest

Towns County
Hiawassee, GA

GPS Location:

34.83120, -83.74940

Waterfall Height:

12 feet

A beautiful little 12-foot waterfall just minutes from Highway 180, Quiet Falls lies on Gurley Branch about 200 feet from its confluence with Soapstone Creek. Despite its small size, Quiet Falls is a highly picturesque and underrated spot that seldom sees many visitors. Gurley Branch should not be confused with the similarly-named Gurley Creek and its much larger waterfall, Gurley Falls, a few miles to the west.

Quiet Falls can be accessed from an unmarked dirt road that branches off Highway 180 about 0.1 mile west of Sorrels Branch. The road descends to a rather deep, high-clearance vehicle ford of Soapstone Creek. On the other side lies a primitive campsite. Here, an obvious scramble path leads up the west side of Gurley Branch to the falls. Although this waterfall was listed as a mere "nearby waterfall" in my Waterfalls of Georgia book, I plan to highlight it better in a future printing.
