Ramey Creek Falls
Chattahoochee National Forest
Rabun County
Dillard, GA
GPS Location:

Waterfall Height:
50 feet
A major tributary of Darnell Creek in Dillard, Ramey Creek is home to an extraordinarily picturesque, stairstepping 50-foot waterfall. This surprisingly seldom visited waterfall lies one-tenth of a mile off the Darnell Creek Trail, which traverses the upper Darnell Creek valley from Darnell Creek Road (FR 150). I find Ramey Creek Falls especially dreamy in spring and summer. The waterfall sits in a lush, rainforest-like setting, and every square inch of rock is covered by dense green moss.
Ramey Creek Falls can be reached via a moderate 1.6-mile uphill hike along the Darnell Creek Trail, which includes a shallow ford of Darnell Creek along the way. An unmarked spur path leaves the main trail in order to access the falls. This inconspicuous side trail is often-missed and is the main reason this waterfall sees little traffic. It descends steeply through a rhododendron thicket to Ramey Creek just below the falls. Meanwhile, the Darnell Creek Trail continues climbing out of the valley to connect with the Bartram Trail enroute to Rabun Bald.
