Ride-a-Horse Branch Falls is a substantial 80-foot waterfall found in the steep upper reaches of Ride-a-Horse Branch. The waterfall is characterized by a long series of interconnected drops. Unfortunately, fallen trees and encroaching rhododendron make it tough to establish a clear view of the waterfall's main tier, despite its tall height.
Reaching Ride-a-Horse Branch Falls requires a long, tough bushwhack across rugged terrain. The trek starts along an old logging road heading northwest from FR 774, uphill along a drainage, at 0.4 mile from Coopers Creek Road. The roadbed grows increasingly faint but can be followed to a saddle along a ridge. On the other side of the ridge, one must bushwhack downhill to Ride-a-Horse Branch, then follow this latter creek upstream for about 0.1 mile to the falls. As you approach the falls, the terrain becomes extremely steep and rugged, making this waterfall appropriate mainly for hardcore waterfallers.
