Located on Big Leatherwood Creek, Romans Falls is a scenic 15-foot waterfall named for a small nearby cave known as the Romans Den. This small cave became infamous as a hideout for Samuel Romans and William Smith, who sought to avoid fighting in the Civil War. A small sandy pool lies at the base of the waterfall, helping to create a scenic backdrop.
Romans Falls is the lowermost of several waterfalls on Big Leatherwood Creek, located well downstream from Mary Steele Falls and Big Leatherwood Falls. Although the waterfall lies off-trail, it is near the Frady Branch trail system. It is best accessed from the well-used yet unmarked side trail to Romans Den off the Pear Orchard Trail. This side trail accesses Big Leatherwood Creek near the cave, from where it's a 0.15-mile bushwhack downstream through mainly open woods to the falls.
