Three Forks Falls is a 20-foot waterfall on Big Creek where it meets Overflow Creek and Holcomb Creek at a spot called Three Forks, forming the West Fork Chattooga River. This broad, sliding waterfall is the lowermost of four waterfalls on Big Creek, located right at the confluence. The 1.5-mile Three Forks Trail from Overflow Creek Road reaches the confluence directly across from Three Fork Falls. Most of the trail is a gentle descent, but the last part is a very steep and rugged scramble.
Additionally, Three Forks can also be accessed via an unmarked but well-used 3.4-mile trail from Highway 28. This latter trail reaches Three Forks on the opposite side of the creek, directly at the base of Three Forks Falls and the Big Creek confluence. The trail also provides access to Singley's Falls, Thunder Dome Falls, and several other beautiful off-trail waterfalls on Big Creek and Overflow Creek.
Three Forks is like the Promised Land to me. The area is absolutely magical. I believe it's a strong contender for the most scenic stretch of mountain creek in the state. Meeting each other at right angles, Holcomb Creek, Overflow Creek, and Big Creek all come together at Three Forks. Just below the confluence, a 50-foot cliff towers above the rushing waters of the West Fork Chattooga River like a warden, signaling the river's dynamic beginning. Additionally, Holcomb Creek drops in with its own scenic little bonus waterfall across from Three Forks Falls (see photo below). This particular drop should not be confused with the bigger Holcomb Canyon Falls.
