Cornelia, GA

GPS Location:

15 feet

Trailside Falls is the second waterfall found along the relaxing Rhododendron Trail near Lake Russell. A brief side path descends to the top of the falls, on the left, following a 0.55-mile hike from Lake Russell Road. The scramble path to the bottom of the falls is a little steeper, crossing the creek and descending down the other side.

About 15 feet high, Trailside Falls is an attractive cascading waterfall surrounded by large rock slabs and a scenic wading pool. It lies along an unnamed creek draining into Lake Russell. It makes for a terrific easy waterfall hike combination when paired with Lower Trailside Falls, and other waterfalls can be seen upstream should you wish to up the difficulty.

A sign on Chenocetah Mountain appears to identify this waterfall as Cascade Falls. However, the "real" Cascade Falls is actually the upstream drop commonly referred to as Rhododendron Falls today, per a 1912 Mt. Airy postcard.
