Upper Bear Creek Falls

Cloudland Canyon State Park

Dade County
Trenton, GA

GPS Location:

34.83275, -85.47569

Waterfall Height:

40 feet

The Bear Creek gorge forms the lesser known eastern branch of Cloudland Canyon on Lookout Mountain. Although no waterfalls on Bear Creek are as significant as those on Daniel Creek, two waterfalls on Bear Creek remain notable. Upper Bear Creek Falls, the second waterfall, is a long stairstepping drop of about 40 feet squeezed into a narrow canyon. To kayakers, it's also known as "Stairway to Heaven." The lower Bear Creek gorge is a very rugged area with no trails and surrounded by tall cliffs. This waterfall is not for tourists or casual park visitors. Only nimble and experienced off-trail hikers should attempt it.
