Upper Chinquapin Falls

Chattahoochee National Forest

White County
Helen, GA

GPS Location:

34.77785, -83.67792

Waterfall Height:

50 feet

Upper Chinquapin Falls is the third waterfall along Chinquapin Branch, a steeply-dropping stream on the south side of Tray Mountain. About 50 feet high, the upper falls lies 300 feet upstream from Middle Chinquapin Falls, above the steepest part of the gorge. Additionally, a scenic 20-foot bonus drop lies right above the brink of Upper Chinquapin Falls. It is arguably more picturesque than the main waterfall.

Reaching Upper Chinquapin Falls entails an even more difficult bushwhack than that to Lower Chinquapin Falls. An old logging road climbs around a ravine and out of the gorge to the east of Lower and Middle Chinquapin Falls. The roadbed passes within sight of the upper falls. It is very overgrown and essentially a bushwhack.
