Upper Darnell Creek Falls is a gorgeous 60-foot waterfall found along Darnell Creek just east of Dillard. Located a few hundred feet upstream from Darnell Creek Falls, this waterfall is as much of an underrated hidden gem as the lower falls. It tumbles over a series of three tiers while Darnell Creek makes a S-shaped bend, the lower tier being a unique double slide. A beautiful pool lies at the base of the falls, while a lush rainforest-like canopy shades it overhead. Many people who make the easy, flat walk to Darnell Creek Falls have no idea this amazing waterfall lies just a little farther upstream.
Upper Darnell Creek Falls can be reached by a short, unmarked scramble path descending from Darnell Creek Road (FR 150). Although this is a more rudimentary scramble compared to the flat trail to the lower falls, it is not particularly difficult and can be done by most people. Parking room is very limited at the start of the path. However, visitors can park closer to Darnell Creek Falls and just walk the short distance farther up the road.
