Chestatee Wildlife Management Area

Lumpkin County
Dahlonega, GA

GPS Location:

34.71711, -83.91914

Waterfall Height:

35 feet

Corkscrew Falls is the third of several waterfalls located above Upper DeSoto Falls on the same tributary of Frogtown Creek. A tight, steeply-sliding drop about 35 feet high, Corkscrew Falls is shown on the original USGS topographic map of the area. The waterfalls above Upper DeSoto Falls lie strictly off-trail in very steep, rugged terrain. Leaving the official trail in this vicinity is highly discouraged by the Forest Service. Injuries have occurred from climbing around the waterfalls, and explicitly climbing Upper DeSoto Falls is prohibited. Accessing Corkscrew Falls is only for nimble cross-country hikers with strong off-trail scrambling experience.
