Upper Rhododendron Falls

Chattahoochee National Forest

Habersham County
Cornelia, GA

GPS Location:

34.50748, -83.50143

Waterfall Height:

30 feet

Upper Rhododendron Falls is the second in a pair of waterfalls located in a small, tight gorge below Chenocetah Mountain. About 30 feet high, this picturesque, stairstepping waterfall is of similar size to the lower falls. It lies a few dozen yards above Rhododendron Falls and is slightly more enshrouded by vegetation in a mountain laurel thicket. Upper Rhododendron Falls is located on an unnamed creek, which joins another unnamed creek downstream that eventually flows into Lake Russell.

The Rhododendron Trail travels up this creek valley from the lake, passing several smaller waterfalls, but it does not provide direct access to Upper Rhododendron Falls. To reach Upper Rhododendron Falls, you will have to bushwhack up the side gorge for about 0.1 mile from the main trail. A precarious scramble route leads steeply uphill from the lower falls to the upper falls.
