Upper Swinehart Falls
Private Property
Banks County
Baldwin, GA
GPS Location:
PRIVATE
Waterfall Height:
50 feet
Downstream from Lake Russell, the lower reaches of Nancy Town Creek feature a series of three waterfalls in a small gorge before the creek dumps into the Middle Fork Broad River. Unfortunately, this part of Nancy Town Creek flows through private property outside the Lake Russell WMA and is strictly inaccessible to the public. The waterfall highlighted here is the upper drop in the gorge, an impressive double slide dropping about 50 feet. It lies about 250 feet upstream from the middle waterfall in the gorge. The only picture I have seen is from a scouting trip by kayakers. I am not certain if this waterfall has an official name but was told it may be named Upper Swinehart Falls after the local Swinehart family, which operates the Swinehart's Power Equipment shop in Baldwin. In my book, I have also referenced this waterfall as Upper Nancy Town Gorge Falls out of a lack of established names.
To learn about more waterfalls in the Baldwin area, see chapter 8 in Mark Ozboyd's "Waterfalls of Georgia" guidebook.
