Zahnd Falls

Zahnd Natural Area

Walker County
LaFayette, GA

GPS Location:

34.65002, -85.47495

Waterfall Height:

15 feet

A small but beautiful 15-foot waterfall, Zahnd Falls lies in the headwaters of the East Fork Little River atop the Lookout Mountain plateau. A deep grotto lies beneath the overhanging cliff, allowing for plenty of room to walk behind the falls. A rare natural arch is located along the cliff about 150 feet northeast of the falls. Zahnd Falls can be reached by an easy 0.6-mile hike along the Pink Flagged Trail from the gravel parking lot for Zahnd Natural Area along Highway 157.

In addition to the waterfall, consider hiking the whole 2.6-mile Pink Loop to visit the numerous rock formations that make Zahnd Natural Area unique, including several towering "hoodoo" pillars, as well as spectacular clifftop views. To access the views of Lookout Mountain & McLemore Cove without hiking the whole loop, simply take the trail across the road from the parking area and hike for 0.2 mile to the edge of the bluff line. A left turn on the trail along the bluffs leads to more views.

Note: A Georgia Lands Pass, Hunting, or Fishing License is required to use this land. The license costs $15 per person annually and can only be obtained online at www.gooutdoorsgeorgia.com or at certain retailers.
