About the Georgia Waterfall Database
Howdy! If you're here to learn about waterfalls, you've come to the right place. I'm Mark Oleg Ozboyd, the founder of the Georgia Waterfall Database.
Exploring waterfalls is my passion. Born and raised in Georgia, I have been crisscrossing our state in search of magnificent waterfalls ever since I was a little kid. Over the course of a decade, I've become known as the Dr. Waterfall of Georgia and I enjoy sharing with you all the information you need to plan your waterfall trips. Once the waterfallin' bug takes hold, you'll never look back.
The Georgia Waterfall Database is the first-ever complete directory to over 700 waterfalls across all of Georgia, from the lofty north Georgia mountains to metro Atlanta to even the flatlands of central and south Georgia.

Mark Oleg Ozboyd, aka "Dr. Waterfall," a Georgia native and first-generation American, has been exploring waterfalls since early childhood. At 12, Mark started writing trail reports on www.HikingTheAppalachians.com, now a repository of over 300 hiking trails across the Southeast. At 16, he co-founded the North Carolina Hiking & Waterfalls Facebook group, which grew to over 175,000 members and became the most popular forum for nature enthusiasts in North Carolina. He also helps to administrate the 220,000-member North Georgia Hiking & Adventure Facebook group. At 17, Mark compiled the first-ever online Georgia Waterfall Database with every known waterfall in Georgia. Articles about his work have been published in Marietta Daily Journal and The Northeast Georgian, and he has given lectures at Unicoi State Park and Chattahoochee Nature Center. As a freelance journalist, Mark wrote about waterfalls in The Dahlonega Nugget, Rabun County Travel Guide, and North Georgia Living. His picture of the Milky Way above David's Falls was the cover image for the Winter 2023-24 edition of North Georgia Living. Mark's photos have also appeared in The Toccoa Record, WSB-TV Atlanta, Travel Taste and Tour Magazine, WNC Magazine, and The Appalachian Voice. As a professional photographer, Mark enjoys taking pictures of everything from waterfalls and night skies to historic sites and events. He is an alumnus of The Conservatoire’s European School of Music & Chess. He graduated cum laude from Washington & Lee University with degrees in Neuroscience (learning and nutrition) and Environmental Science, focused on GIS and hydrology.
