Horsetrough Falls
Waterfall Info: This extraordinarily picturesque waterfall is located on a tributary of the Chattahoochee River near the back of Upper Chattahoochee River Campground outside Helen. Benefiting from very easy access, the waterfall is particularly beautiful during periods of ample rainfall.
Landowner: Chattahoochee National Forest (Chattahoochee Wildlife Management Area)
Height: 90 Feet
Type: Sheer Drop (Single-Tier)
County: Union
Access Info: From the day use parking area at the back of Upper Chattahoochee River Campground, hike the flat and easy Horsetrough Falls Trail for 0.2 mile to an observation deck at the falls. You will cross a wooden bridge over the Chattahoochee River about halfway to the falls; this happens to be the uppermost bridge on the infamous Chattahoochee. In addition, rustic side paths follow the river upstream to Chute Falls. Note that from January to mid-March, the road into the campground is closed, and you'll need to park in an overflow parking lot at the gate along FR 44. This adds an extra half-mile each way to the hike.
