Lower Mossy Cove Branch Falls
Waterfall Info: This is the lower of two waterfalls in a gorge on Mossy Cove Branch on the southeast side of Chinquapin Ridge. The waterfall is quite long, but you cannot see all of it from the base. The best views are above the falls along the route to Upper Mossy Cove Branch Falls (which is also the more scenic of the two falls).
Landowner: Chattahoochee National Forest (Swallow Creek Wildlife Management Area)
Height: 40 Feet
Type: Steep Slide (Single-Tier)
County: Towns
Access Info: Corbin Creek Road (FS 698) makes a long and fairly sharp curve directly south of the point where Mossy Cove Branch drops steeply into the mini-gorge with the two waterfalls. Leave the road at the west end of the curve and bushwhack straight down the ridge, which is easy enough to follow despite being overgrown with mountain laurel. You will probably come out near the top of the lower falls, after which it is an easy scramble to the base. As you approach the falls, you will intersect a well-defined old logging road that appears to receive some foot traffic. I think this old logging road trail begins further down along Corbin Creek Road and loosely follows Mossy Cove Branch the whole way, but I'm not sure on the whereabouts of the exact starting point.
