Lower Reed Creek Falls

Waterfall Info: From the bottom, this is the first waterfall on Reed Creek, a major tributary of the Chattooga River.

Access Info: This waterfall is accessed by an extremely difficult and treacherous cross-country bushwhack off Burrells Ford Road (FS 646). If the weather is warm enough, it is best to creek-walk as much as possible directly through Reed Creek. Some sections of the creek are relatively flat and open above Reed Creek Falls. Another possible way to access the falls is by following the unofficial fishermens' trail along the Chattooga River from Russell Bridge on Highway 28 to Reed Creek. From there, one can bushwhack upstream along Reed Creek to this falls and the main middle falls. Keep in mind that you will still eventually encounter bushwhacking as strenuous as the approach from above, and the overall hike is longer from this direction (but the tough bushwhack portion is a little shorter).
